Our History:

Community Smiles was established in 1946 as the Dade County Dental Research Clinic. Its founding premise, which continues today, is to provide professional dental care for the low-income community. Dedicated, licensed dentists donate their time, vision and energy to the underserved in their community. Throughout its history, Community Smiles has enhanced the oral well-being of its patients.

Community Smiles provides advanced post-doctoral education and training in the art and science of dentistry through an ADA-accredited dental residency program. This program enables the participants to acquire new knowledge and skills in clinical dentistry while specialized, comprehensive care to medically compromised patients.

Expanding on its original public service commitment, Community Smiles continues to emphasize treating children and families throughout Miami-Dade County while simultaneously creating a multitude of superior dental programs. Addtionally, through a cooperative relationship with the Miami-Dade County Public School System, training and job opportunities in the dental profession are available to the general public through a dental assistant program.

Our Principles:

Community Smiles clinic, staff, and volunteers are guided by these three principles. It is these principles that have helped the indigent of Miami-Dade County for over 60 years. It is our commitment to these principles that has gained Congressional recognition in 2007:

• Providing quality dental care to the indigent of Miami-Dade County.
• Post doctoral education for our volunteer dentists and an accredited AEGD residency program.
• Training dental assistants for ADA certification.
